How to set up a SIP softphone
A SIP softphone turns a computer or a phone into an extension of your phone system. Setting one up takes the same few details whichever app you use.
What you need
Ask the administrator of your phone system, or look in your provider's control panel, for these:
- The SIP address or user name, often an extension number such as 1001
- The password for that account (not the password you use to sign in to the provider's website)
- The domain or server the account belongs to
- An outbound proxy, if the provider uses one
- Sometimes an authentication user, if it differs from the user name
Add the account in YunZheng Voice
Open YunZheng Voice, go to Accounts and choose Add SIP account. Enter a name you will recognise, the SIP address in the form 1001@pbx.example.com (the user and the domain are filled in from it), and the password. Put the outbound proxy and the authentication user under Advanced if you were given them. Save.
Check that it is ready
The account shows Ready when the phone system has accepted it. Choose it under Calling from on the keypad, call another extension, and have someone call you back: the call window appears on the desktop, and on Android the call rings full screen.
When it will not sign in
"Could not sign in" nearly always means one of the details is off. Check them in this order:
- The password: the account's own password, typed again
- The domain: exactly as your provider gives it
- The user name and, if there is one, the authentication user
- The outbound proxy: required by some providers, wrong for others
- Whether the account is already in use on too many devices, if your phone system limits that
YunZheng Voice numbers
With a YunZheng account there is nothing to type: choose Sign in with YunZheng and your personal phone, your extensions and your YunZheng Voice numbers are added and ready.
